Grab Bars

Grab Bars lend assistance with safety and security to individuals with physical disabilities. They are required for a Barrier Free Toilet compartment to be ADA compliant. Grab Bars are typically constructed of 18 gauge Type 304 stainless steel tube, 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" outside diameter. Tubing is mandrell bent and ends are heliarc welded. Flanges may be exposed or concealed. A #4 satin finish is standard but other finishes are available.

Grab bars are available in several standard types as shown but custom-made bars can be fabricated to fit a particular need or application. Please contact the sales staff of Hardware Discounters, Inc. with questions or if you need more information.

Straight Bar

The Straight Bar is the basic grab bar. Sizes range from 12" up to 54". 24", 36", and 42" bars are considered ADA compliant.

Mid Support Bar

A Mid Support grab bar adds an extra mounting point equal distance from each end for additional support. Lengths typically start at 36" and go up to 108".

Corner Mount Bar

One end of a Corner Mount Bar mounts to the back wall. The other two mounting points are on a sidewall or toilet partition panel. 42" to 54" lengths standard.

Wall-to-Floor Bar

A right angle bar that mounts to the back wall and returns to the floor. The typical dimensions are 30" projection from the wall and 33" to the floor. The bar can have an extension to be set in concrete, a flange for mounting direct to the floor, or an additional leg or outrigger for added stability.

Angle Bars

Angle Bars are particularly useful for walls with limited space. Popular styles are the "Hockey Stick" and the "Boomerang" bars. These types of grab bars are handed which is determined by the user sitting on the toilet.

Straddle Bars

Straddle Bars provide for support on both sides of the fixture. Choose between Floor or Wall Mounted.

Swingup & Swingaway Bars

Swingup and Swingaway Bars move out of the way when not in use. Tension in the hinge of the Swingup bar will keep it in an upright position and allows it to move smoothly and easily when lowered. For the Swingaway bar a simple lifting motion allows the bar to be locked in three positions 90 degrees apart.

Bathtub Bars

Many bathing areas should have grab bars. It is recommend that a vertical bar be used for safety when entering or exiting the tub and a horizontal bar for leverage when pulling oneself out of a sitting position. This can be achieved by using either the grab bars shown here or using several individual bars depending on the particular bathing area and/or application. These grab bars are also provide handholds for showering.
